Record shops in Amsterdam .
Diggin in the crates is still very worthwhile in Amsterdam !
Unlike many cities in the world the amount of record shops here has
increased ! Most of the shops are within walking distance of each
other so it also gives you a good opportunity to have a good look
at the Medieval town centre and drink a beer or visit a "coffee" shop !
The variety of record shops is also very big, but we concentrate on
the shops that still sell vinyl and have a large selection of Soul
And R n B.

( Note to the shop owners; we are corruptible…..so if you want
that No 1 position next year, Hans wants the Frankie Zhivago
album and Harry wouldnt mind owning the Smokey Robinson
and the Miracles Cookin album !).
No 1. Waxwell.
Still the no 1 shop in town ( in the whole of Holland for that matter !) Regular trips to the USA secure this shop of a regular influx of
records. Specialised in Soul, Jazz and Rap vinyl ( no CDs here !)
Leon, Taco and Sjoerd know their records but dont ask ridiculous

No 2. Backbeat .
Run by Dick "Zoetemelk" Baars who used to be the drummer for
Arthur Conleys band in Holland ( he even recorded a live album with him).
Very good selection of Soul and Jazz both on vinyl and CD.
Dick also stocks all the well known re-issue labels and also sells
tickets for Soul gigs at Paradiso.

No 3 . Second Life Music.
Now expanded to two floors of mainly vinyl covering all genres.
Chris and Carlo run this nice shop and especially Carlo is into
Soul music and regular buys very interesting collections …so
you just might be lucky…

Opposite Amsterdams best life music location The Paradiso.
Two foors of records with a lot of collector items. Mainly specialised
in all kinds of Sixties music but also decent collections of Soul and
Jazz. Owner Jan always tries to drag in the artists who perform at
the Paradiso and sell them loads of records ! ( Paul Weller is a regular).

Located near De Nieuwmarkt square in the centre of Amsterdam.
Specialised in Vinyl re-releases and equipment. But also a very
big collection of original 45s with picture sleeves can be found
in this large basement store.

No 6. Concerto.
The longest running record shop in Amsterdam !
Over the years gradually expanded into 5 shops in a row on
the Utrechtsestraat . All genres available , all the big soul CD
labels : Kent , Ace , etc in large quantities available.
Also a wide range of new and used DVDs . Still a large section
of Vinyl , new and second hand.

All-round record shop with a big collection of Soul albums.
Located near the Heineken Brewery and Museum…we suggest
you visit the shop first ! .

Owner Harrie Berkhout gradually shifted his attention from records
to vintage record players. So if youre looking for a nice looking
Audio-set this is the place for you ! So are there any records left ?
Yes but mainly Classical music !

No 9. Distortion Records .
Distortion has all the latest releases on vinyl ( but it might take some
time to find them in this chaotic shop ! ). Big selection of Reggae
and also a decent collection of Soul . They also run a very good
mailorder service… so check their website !

No 10. Rush hour.
Small shop in the centre of town, mainly caters for DJs in subgenres
of music even Harry hasnt heard of yet !
But also the main outlet for a lot of independent labels such as
Kindred Spirits.
